Bacteriostatic water is not a peptide. The term is used for certain aqueous solutions that may contain an antimicrobial preservative, commonly benzyl alcohol. Exact composition must not be assumed from the name.
What a laboratory should verify
The label and batch dossier should identify composition, preservative concentration, volume, batch, expiry, storage conditions, sterilisation method and relevant testing.
Why no reconstitution instructions are provided
Compatibility depends on the material, method and experimental purpose. Generic instructions may compromise a sample or be misread as guidance for human use.
Status and handling
A container labelled “bacteriostatic” is not automatically authorised for every application. Supplier specifications and legal assessment define permitted use.
